Something that I have been learning as of late and practically my whole life is the power of the words you speak. This reminds me of what my grandmother used to say, if you don’t have anything good to say don’t say anything at all.
My life experiences have taught me that the words you speak directly to yourself definitely have power. It is true that I have a tendency to talk negatively about myself, because I grew up listening to people speak negatively about me constantly, and it’s something that I was accustomed to when I was young. So I never really thought anything bad about it.
As someone who is constantly critical of myself, I have noticed that doing so knocks my self-esteem down and the way I believe others perceive me. Due to this, I missed out on many things life has to offer because I didn’t see myself as highly as others do. Why i always had something negative to say about myself most likely dates back to my childhood/teenage upbringing, but that’s a story for another day.
Over the past few months, I have been exposed to and learning about affirmations, and how they can greatly improve your self validation and self worth. This has been the most beneficial thing that has happened to me. Now I am learning how to speak kindly to myself, be patient with my mind and body. Starting my days with affirmations has really rewired my brain and myself as an individual. Having daily affirmations helped me hear the things that I wanted to hear growing up, but unfortunately never got to fully experience.
I love that there are now other outlets where my generation and those of the future have something to expose them to self love, and learn about self worth. This is unlike me growing up and thinking that there has to be something better than this.
So, you have the choice either to speak good about yourself and build yourself in a positive light, or go down the rabbit hole of negative thinking into the sunken place.
